DJs

Our amazing DJs for 2025!

Amy
AmyNYC
Amy understands that good music is essential for having a memorable evening of dancing. Her selections respond to the energy of the milonga and are crafted to inspire expressive, creative, and deeply connected dance experiences. Amy started tango as a student at UCLA and after dancing for several years, she began DJing as a way to broaden her study of tango. She enjoys collecting music and exploring various ways of constructing tandas. Amy has DJed at events across the United States and in her current hometown of NYC.

Jay
JayMinneapolis
J Abling has been a dj at many major festivals and cities all over North America since 2002. His DJ style is characterized by his ability to move the rhythmical feet and sway the melodic hearts of every dancer in the room. His choice tandas carefully strike the right balance between familiar classic tangos and pleasantly surprising ones.
Micaela
MicaelaCleveland
Born and raised in NYC, Micaela grew up with a reverence for music. Her journey as a tango professional has allowed her to gather years of experience and knowledge about the feeling and sound of tango. From coast to coast, Mica has DJ’d for dance floors large and small; always keeping a keen eye on the pacing of the room and delivering all the hits wrapped up with a dance party bow. These days she can be found spinning the tunes for her events in Cleveland, a mix between milonga and the showcasing of local artists around town in an effort to mend the rift between dancer and live music.

In the pursuit of better understanding this artform, Micaela and her dance partner Alberto have also organized a Community Orchestra that hosts practices and events for new and established musicians alike to get together and take time learning the ins and outs of what makes tango special. Mica uses these insights from dance and music study to inform her DJing and it brings her great joy to share an evening of any kind of music with a roomful of people <3

James
JamesCharlotte
Since I started my tango journey back in 2008, I’ve gone through many phases of growth as dancer, TDJ, organizer and community member. Lately, I’m at a place where I find joy in other areas of tango than dance itself such as deeper appreciation and love for the music, getting to know and connect with people outside of embrace and organizing mutually rewarding events to name a few.

My focus as TDJ is to find a ‘story’ that resonates with as many people in the room as possible and to deliver it in the best quality possible. When the magic happens and I feel the strong connection with the room/dancers, it’s one of the most rewarding experiences. I cherish that.

Outside tango, I enjoy spending time with my loved ones including two furbabies. I love exploring new places, nature, playing sports, cooking/eating and good conversation while sipping nice bourbon/whiskey/wine.

I’m honored and ecstatic to be part of AATM and create a story with you. Looking forward to seeing you in April 2025.

Jun
JunSan Francisco
Jun discovered the captivating world of Argentine Tango while studying at Yale University, drawn in by the beauty of the music and the intensity of the dance. Her DJing journey began with the Yale Tango Club, where her passion for curating exceptional tango music quickly became evident. This pursuit of musical excellence earned her invitations to DJ at popular milongas in New York City, a vibrant tango hub that nurtured her growth as both a dancer and DJ. With a gentle and sensitive soul, Jun listens deeply to the energy of the dance floor, crafting musical landscapes that resonate with dancers’ emotions, inviting them to lose themselves in the warmth of the embrace, the elegance of the steps, and the playful spontaneity of movement. Jun’s selections transform milongas into unforgettable experiences.

Jun has shared her music at many internationally acclaimed tango marathons and festivals. Additionally, her musical artistry has graced milongas and festivals in North America, Europe, Asia, and Argentina. Now based in California, Jun continues to flourish as a tango DJ, dancer, and community-builder. Her journey is fueled by her ongoing study of tango music and her extensive travels around the world. With every set, Jun brings her deep connection to tango’s rich traditions, her sensitivity to the dancers’ needs, and her unwavering dedication to creating extraordinary moments on the dance floor.

Tommy
TommyBoise
Tommy discovered tango in early 2012 in Boise, Idaho, which he still calls home. Immediately becoming obsessed, his love for exploring both the technical and emotional facets of tango has only grown since. His skills and interests run the full spectrum: teaching, performing, and organizing – but DJing edges them all out as his top tango passion.

You won’t find Tommy more animated or joyful than when he’s behind the laptop, watching and grooving along with the dancers he’s playing for. His DJ philosophy is simple: play songs that slap, tandas that get dancers’ feet on the floor, and music that will lead to deep connection. Tommy has a holistic approach to DJing, paying special attention to opportunities to enhance the dancer’s experience beyond just choice in music. Throughout the night, you’ll find him carefully choosing the perfect cortina, using volume to manage energy, and harassing organizers with questions like “So…just how much control do we have over these lights?”

To educate and motivate beginning DJs, progressing DJs, and dancers interested in tango music, he puts on semi-regular DJ workshops, both locally and at festivals. Look for Tommy DJing events around North America, such as Marathon Z (DC), Tango on the Rocks (Denver), Austin Spring Tango, and Abrazo (Montreal).

Marco
MarcoSound & Lighting Wizard
Marco’s fascination with sound started at an early age. He got into playing music at age 7 and has never stopped. Fine tuning his ear and continuously learning about sound throughout life, Marco has done sound for concerts, studios, milongas and marathons.

Captivated with the light shows from live performances, it was obvious that along with the sound, the lighting played an integral part of the experience. It is this same ambiance that he works to bring to live events such as AATM. Where both the visual and audible ambiance come together to help create a pleasant and joyful experience for all. He is looking forward to helping it happen again at this year’s AATM.

James
JamesMaster Chef
James came to the US with the dream of becoming a formally trained chef. After graduating from Johnson & Wales university with a major in culinary arts, he worked and trained at a few prominent restaurants in RI and MA. For the past two decades, he worked as a private chef. Now on a sabbatical taking a break from professional cooking, he’s happy to bring his joy and love for cooking to AATM to share with everyone.
